Oregon

Oregon Shakespeare Festival

Oregon offers a rich taste of all the grandeur and diversity the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Outstanding natural beauty, wide-open spaces, extreme outdoor adventure, impressive historical and cultural sites, and friendly people make the “Oregon experience” truly unique. Seven distinctive regions — the Coast, Greater Portland, Mt. Hood/Columbia River Gorge, Willamette Valley, Southern Oregon, Central Oregon, and Eastern Oregon —represent a wealth of diverse climates, scenery, cultures, culinary delights, excellent wines, beers and spirits, and many outdoor recreational opportunities.

There is something here for everyone. Snow-covered mountains, 363-miles public beaches, fertile valleys, color-splashed hills, the rugged cliffs of Hell’s Canyon, – the deepest gorge in North America and the stunning Crater Lake – the deepest lake in the US. Best of all, there is no sales tax when you shop! There are international non-stop flights onboard Delta Airlines from Amsterdam and Tokyo as well as non-stop flights from Vancouver B.C. and seasonal non-stop flights to Toronto and Calgary.

Oregon also knows how to celebrate in style with a variety of different festivals throughout the year including, the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival, rated a top event in the United States, Feast, Portland’s first annual international food and drink festival September 2012, the Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene, Oregon, which presents three weeks of choral-orchestral masterworks, The Tony Award-Winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Southern Oregon and The North Willamette Wine Trail Weekend, where you will experience a weekend full of wine, culinary samples and fun!

Come visit and see for yourself what makes Oregon truly unique – you will know when you get here! To keep current on what’s happening in Oregon be sure to check our website frequently www.traveloregon.com.

Alaska

A Roadmap to Alaska's Memorable Landscapes

In August 2011, Alaska designated its 16th state scenic byway, Walden Point Road, located in Metlakatla in the Inside Passage. While the 14-mile corridor is considered a road less traveled, the area is full of rich history, culture and recreational opportunities.

Alaska’s Scenic Byways program recognizes some of the most beautiful routes in Alaska that provide access to popular cultural and recreational areas of the state, including Denali National Park and Preserve, the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and the gateway to the Klondike, to name a few. Popular highways connect visitor hubs across Southcentral and Interior Alaska and the less-frequented roadways take travelers off the beaten path to remote glaciers, to historic gold mining towns and beyond the Arctic Circle. Two of Alaska’s scenic byways aren’t roads at all: the Alaska Railroad provides rail service between Seward and Fairbanks and the Alaska Marine Highway System provides ferry access to Alaska’s Inside Passage and across the Gulf Coast.

No matter which direction you’re traveling, there’s hardly a road in Alaska that couldn’t be called scenic. All roadways will lead visitors to awe-inspiring destinations, whether they take the road less traveled or otherwise.
